GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality currently has 12 water trucks located in strategic areas throughout mostly the eastern side of the city, following extensive damage to infrastructure as a result of flash flooding yesterday (Monday 22 November).
A 500 mm water line burst has been located in Oewer Street, Tweerivieren. The pipeline is situated close to the Kat River bank and has burst at three separate sites.
This pipeline has been isolated and repair work started this morning. Access to the site is difficult and a 7 ton excavator is being used. The estimated repair time is approximately 6 hours.
Our Civil Engineers have however confirmed that this is not the main cause of the water loss to the reservoirs and continue to search for further faults with all available officials currently walking the main water lines.
There are many km of pipeline to inspect and as such Civil Engineering Services would like to appeal to the public who are aware of or see any visible water from what appears to be a burst pipe, to urgently report to 044 801 9262/6 so that we can inspect and assess as quickly as possible.
We thank the public in advance who have been extremely patient and helpful in providing relevant information.
The municipality asks the areas currently not affected by the water outage to limit their use of water to only necessities as our reservoirs remain critically low following a pipe burst this weekend and the subsequent damage from yesterday’s flash flooding.
