The finale of the competition was a glamor-ous evening in Paarl on Saturday and was preceded by a week filled to the brim with social engagements in Paarl for the 12 finalists. Women between the ages of 25 and 50 could enter. "I had a wonderful time," says Adele, whose dresses for the competition included a daring African design of ostrich leather and ostrich feathers sponsored by designer Deon Oelofse.
Adele has won other beauty contests in recent years. She was Mrs Diaz in 2010 and was one of 12 finalists for Mrs SA 2011.
As first runner-up in the Out of Africa Winter Queen competition she qualifies for the finals of the International Queen of Hope in Minneapolis next June as well as the 2014 Mrs Universe finals that will be held in Malaysia.
"The Out of Africa Winter Queen competition was different because the judges put a lot of emphasis on the community involvement of participants and on which charity organisations they are involved with," says Adele.
She says a visit to Butterfly House, a home for underprivileged children in Paarl, stood out as memorable. They were also entertained at a cocktail event with the judges and Drakenstein Mayor, Gesie van Deventer at the Doman Brahms wine cellar where a wine tasting was enjoyed. "We were also spoiled with a spa treatment by Sante Spa and Hotel in Paarl and I loved the Spice Route outing which included a chocolate, biltong and beer tasting," says Adele.
"Thank you to all my sponsors, friends and family who have stood by me during all the preparations and who made this week possible. A special thanks to Deon Oelofse and Rags 2 for sponsoring my two dresses."
