GEORGE NEWS - The University of the Third Age opens its March events on Friday the 8th with a talk by Dempsey de Lange titled "It's a vet's life".
This talk will include highlights of his experiences in Namibia, South and West Africa, Istanbul and Brazil treating domestic, zoo and flood rescue animals.
Refreshments at 10:00 and the talk will start at 10:30.
On Monday 11 March at 14:00, Case Rijsdijk will present another session of International Affairs. This replaces the one postponed in February.
On Wednesday 13 March in Armchair Travel, Jackie Haupt will talk about "Travelling in the Swiss Alps on the Swiss Rack and Pinion Trains, exploring the Bernese Oberland" and the many experiences she had together with her husband, Neil.
In 2019 the couple joined a tour of the Bernese Alps based in the quaint village of Wilderswil, which is located just outside Interlaken and is surrounded by the impressive Mönch, Eiger and Jungfrau mountains. This promises to be a very interesting talk that is not to be missed. The talk starts at 10:30.
On Monday 25 March at 14:00, Case Rijsdijk will present another session of International Affairs. Come along and discuss our ever-changing world with him.
At the general meeting on Wednesday 27 March, Marietha Smit will present a talk titled "I don't understand modern art".
A renewed interest in art stimulated by the short course on art appreciation that Dr Brendan Cole presented to U3A in 2023, prompted Smit to lead members further down the art trail by asking them, "Do you feel there is a wall between you and modern art?"
By contextualising its beginnings at the time of the First World War, Smit will endeavour to give members some access to this art movement.
She has taught art for 20 years, is an artist herself and has participated in art exhibitions and events mainly in Johannesburg.
Tea is at 10:00 and the talk starts at 10:30.
All meetings are at Emmaüs in Memorium Street and visitors are always welcome.
