GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The scenic beauty of George and Wilderness was highlighted at the Cape Holiday Show held in Stellenbosch from 26 to 28 October.
The George and Wilderness tourism offices promoted the Garden Route as an ideal destination for adventurous summer vacations at the holiday show held at the Sandringham Estate. Over 8 000 holidaymakers attended the show to search for new getaways. Visitors were able to explore a variety of holiday destinations all under one roof and engaged with exhibitors to find out more about what they have to offer.
Visitors to the Cape Holiday Show included Western Cape residents as well as holidaymakers from Namibia, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
"The Cape Holiday Show is a destination marketing event for travellers interested in finding new and exciting holiday destinations," says organiser Kevin Kennedy. "Visitors can research activities they can do whilst on holiday, particularly camping, outdoor and leisure-related activities."
Tourism officer Graham de Swart, who promoted George at the show, said there was a huge interest in camping and caravanning facilities in the George and Wilderness area, as well as 4x4 routes and adventure activities.
Over 250 individuals visited the George and Wilderness stands during the three days of the exhibition. "There is a big demand for outdoor family activities," said De Swart. "We were able to provide information on a selection of local businesses that offer paragliding, abseiling, kloofing, canoeing, surfing and quad biking activities in our home towns."
Tourists were excited to hear about local attractions including Redberry Farm, the Power Van, the George Museum and over 1 500km of cycling routes in the area.
In addition, local tourism brand ambassadors highlighted the scenic value of the area, including the endless beaches, waterways and lakes.
