GEORGE NEWS - The man who was arrested for attempted murder after a 17-year-old school girl was shot in the chest, will make his next court appearance on 26 February.
According to police Mthetho Ncipha (37) also faces a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“He was arrested on Sunday 17 February after the victim was shot in Qhawa Street, Zone 9, in Thembalethu,” says Captain Dumile Gwavu of the Thembalethu police.
It is alleged that Ncipha was playing with the firearm in a taxi when a shot went off and struck the victim in her chest. Both of them were in the taxi when the incident occurred. The victim was taken to the George Hospital in a stable condition and will in all probability make a full recovery.
“The firearm, two live rounds of ammunition and a projectile were recovered from the crime scene. The firearm is also linked to a housebreaking that occurred in George in April 2018,” said Gwavu.
The suspect will appear for his formal bail application next week. He remains in custody.
