GEORGE NEWS - A 17-year-old girl is in a stable condition in the George Hospital after she was shot in the chest in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim, a local high school learner, was shot in Qhawa Street in Zone 9, Thembalethu.
According to the police they arrested a man (37) in connection with the shooting. He faces charges of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Captain Dumile Gwavu of the Thembalethu police said the suspect will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court today, 19 February.
"It is alleged that the suspect was playing with a firearm in a taxi in the early hours of Sunday morning. A shot went off and the victim was struck on her upper body.
"The firearm, two live rounds of ammunition and a projectile were recovered at the crime scene.
"The firearm is linked to a housebreaking case that took place in April 2018 in George.”
