GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The Eden and Central Karoo Education District obtained the enviable position of the number 10 education district in the whole of South Africa.
It is also the number one rural district in the Western Cape. This exceptional achievement is a feather in the cap of the thriving education district. The performance of schools in the district improved tremendously and the NSC results are proof of quality teaching and learning.
Return to school
Although the district is immensely proud of learners and educators who produced these excellent results in what were probably the most difficult circumstances yet, we want to replicate this achievement and further improve.
We appeal to all learners to return to school. It is never too late, and the opportunities that you will be exposed to with a matric certificate in hand, are abundant. However, none of this can happen if you do not return to school.
All school years are important, right from Grade 1 up until the culmination of your school career in Grade 12. Every day you lose out on schooling is a day lost for your future. Each day you are not attending school, you miss a chance to better your future.
Appeal to parents and communities
The education district also appeals to parents and communities to encourage all school-going learners to return to school. Your support can make a difference. Cheering on children to come back to school will embolden them to be inspired about schooling. Become part of the district where we "inspire people to become better".
Our schools and educators await the return of learners eagerly, so please encourage them continuously. Retaining school-going children in our schools not only benefits their personal opportunities, but also ensure that they become leaders and fully fledged members of your communities.
Assistance available
Any learner, parent or related community member can contact the Safe Schools Support Workers in our district. They can support you and help you to return and resume your schooling as soon as possible.
Truancy visits can be done, and learners will be backed by the team wherever possible.
The Safe Schools Support Workers are Franklin Lamini (franklin.lamini@westerncape.gov.za), Zukile Mgabile (Zukile.mgabile@westerncape.gov.za), Samuel Mzinyati (samuel.mzinyati@westerncape.gov.za) and Bernedette Botha (Bernedette.botha@westerncape.gov.za).
You can also contact them on 044 803 8300 or visit the district office on the first floor of the York Park Building (the old Sars glass building), entrance in St John's Street, George.
Remember, learners: you are the future, and the future is greatness!
