GEORGE NEWS - After 40 years in blue, George policing legend, Captain Kobus Landman, bid his career farewell on Wednesday 30 September.
Landman started his career in 1981 when he was deployed in Molteno. He worked at the charge office before he was transferred to the investigation and enquiries division.
In those years police members also performed duties at court and Landman occasionally acted as a prosecutor.
In 1984 he was transferred to the uniform branch in George. In 1986 he became a detective specialising in fraud cases. He was promoted to the rank of captain in 1995.
Landman was the first commander of the George Crime Information and Analysis Centre, serving in this position until his retirement.
He is a keen golfer who represented the national police team as player and tournament director in Langebaan and the national police championships in Mpumalanga. He is also very involved at the George Golf club.
Landman leaves the police force with a heavy heart. "I feel that I can still contribute to a safer George and would like to assist the police and the community where I can," he says.
Landman's wife Mariette and his daughters, Marike and Colette, are keen campers and say they would like to travel through the beautiful South Africa and neighbouring countries.
"I thank my family and all my colleagues for all the support and camaraderie over the last 40 years that I've worked with them. Thank you to the public of George for the support I received during all the years as well as the support from Saps in general to make George a safer place," says Landman.
