As the festive season approaches, the local police and their partners in the traffic, fire and other government departments will be out in full force.
According to Southern Cape Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, they have contingency plans in place to curb alcohol and drug abuse, drug trafficking, as well as domestic violence.
Once the motorcade made its way through all the main roads, it headed to Thembalethu Square where the men and women in uniform handed out pamphlets about domestic violence, file facts on drugs and fighting crime.
Useful tips in the pamphlet include carrying handbags diagonally across your body and to never keep your wallet in your back pocket.
Not everyone has the patience to stand in a long queue to use the ATM, but it is not safe to use an isolated ATM and, wherever possible, keep cash withdrawals to a minimum.
Additionally, it is important for parents to make sure that children understand that they cannot wander off on their own when visiting swimming pools, beaches or busy shopping centres.
In any emergency contact your nearest police station, or call the emergency number 10 111. Crime Stop can also be contacted on 08600 10111.

The motorcade made its way through the streets of Pacaltsdorp; driving through Rose Street in Seaview.

Members of the police, in conjunction with correctional services and the traffic and fire department, distributed useful pamphlets at Thembalethu Square on how to stay safe over the festive season.
