GEORGE NEWS - Dressed in traditional attire, Thembalethu Police members celebrated their heritage on Friday 6 October at their station by preparing traditional food and showcasing their diverse cultures. Annually Heritage Day is celebrated on 24 September, but the Thembalethu station postponed its festivities to October.
The event is one of the station's annual events held to foster unity among the members and to instil appreciation of each other's cultures.
Sindy Naka, who represented AmaXhosa, was crowned best-dressed female and Fergus Barnard, who wore an IsiZulu outfit, took the honours as the best-dressed male.
Addressing the spectators and participants, Deputy Commander of Eden Cluster, Brig Phumzile Cetyana, said it is important that the police regularly host such an initiative as it helps them understand the different cultures within the community.
"It is very important as members work with a diversity of characters from different cultural backgrounds. It helps us to know and understand diverse cultures and, most importantly, to create a great working relationship between our members," said Cetyana.
Fergus Barnard, who wore IsiZulu attire, was judged the best dressed male.
