Update
GEORGE NEWS - The three suspects accused of the murder of Thembalethu sweetheart Hlompho Mohapi (25), appeared in the George Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Wednesday 27 February.
Melisizwe Monqo, Siphosihle Pamba and Phumlani Qusheka were arrested shortly after Mohapi's death in July 2018.
More charges
This was however not their only court appearance this month. On 21 February Monqo appeared in the King Williams Town Magistrate's Court on a charge of attempted murder. The following day all three suspects appeared in the Ezibeleni Magistrate's Court in Queenstown on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
This comes after two more potential victims, on whom life insurance policies were also taken out without their knowledge, were identified during the Mohapi murder investigation. It is alleged that Monqo, Pamba and Qusheka were key in arranging these policies. The three will be travelling back to the Eastern Cape on 18 March for another court appearance in Queenstown.
Custody
The trio have been in custody since their arrest. Mohapi's body was found next to the Voëlklip road near Herold's Bay by passing fishermen on 5 July. Bail was denied in August last year.
Mohapi murder
Before she was killed, two life insurance policies and a funeral policy were taken out on Mohapi's life.
On the day she was murdered, the suspects allegedly lured her out of Thembalethu under false pretences of a job interview, after which she was abducted, brutally murdered and her body dumped next to the road.
The case was remanded to 2 April awaiting instruction from the director of public prosecutions (DPP) on whether the different court cases will be combined and if so, in which high court, Western or Eastern Cape, the case will continue.
