Torsten Henschel of the Wilderness NSRI said 22 volleyball teams participated. "The tone of day was fun and enjoyment. But ultimately the competitive spirit emerged, as teams were eliminated and the finals approached."
In the junior division, gold medals were awarded to 'The Chops', a mixed local team of friends, while silver went to the 'Bull Dogs', representing Glenwood House School.
The senior division was finally won by the '100-Plus' team, taking gold from the 'Sandeaters' in second position, and 'I'd hit that', representing Oakhurst Insurance in third place.
Henschel says this festival is now firmly entrenched in the local events calendar, and should grow from strength to strength. Kids enjoyed the beach 10-pin bowling and the archery competitions, with many prizes up for grabs. The music was lively and the boerewors rolls legendary. The Wilderness NSRI will host a similar beach volleyball tournament, together with Leisure Active on 31 March as part of the Sedgefield Slow Festival.
