Update
GEORGE NEWS - Security measures have allegedly been increased at Emcimbini, a social venue for the youth in Thembalethu, after the young Sinethemba Buda (24) was stabbed to death about two weeks ago inside the popular venue in Ramaphosa.
In a letter circulating on social media, the owner of the establishment said that they have employed more security personnel, security cameras have been installed and the fence line is also patrolled by security guards.
An entrance fee has been imposed and only a limited number of people are allowed at a time.
"We humbly request the community to accept our sincere apology for the unfortunate incidents that took place, and further request support going forward. We really commit ourselves to strengthening safety," said the letter.
George Herald contacted the owner to obtain comment regarding the incidents and said security measures, but he did not respond to any of our requests or enquiries.
According to a resident, only food is sold on the premises, no alcohol. Patrons are however allowed to bring their own beverages.
The incident
Buda was stabbed several times in front of a crowd of people who were inside the venue in Tabata Street at 02:45 on Sunday morning, 22 January.
He succumbed to his wounds on scene.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Christ Spies at the time said the circum-stances surrounding the incident were still under investigation and the motive was unknown.
A suspect, Mahlubandile Tandiso (24), was arrested on Wednesday 25 January in connection with the incident. He made his first court appearance two days later and remains in custody pending his bail application tomorrow, Friday 10 February.
On 31 December 2022, Anesipho Mtyukwini (24) was also stabbed to death on these premises. A 32-year-old woman was arrested in connection with this incident.
Serious concerns have been raised by residents who want the venue closed and since the latest incident, security measures have apparently been increased.

Buda's father, Thembile Nelson Louw, spoke to George Herald during the funeral service and said that the family has no vendetta against anyone.
"We believe only God who knows exactly what happened on that day and we hope justice prevails and they will find out exactly what happened," he said.
