GEORGE NEWS - York High's International Food Fest hit the spot this year when they moved their biggest fundraiser from the school premises to their hockey fields, and out of the settling dusk of a Friday evening to broad daylight on a lovely late Saturday morning.
Yorkie parents and friends made up for last year's near flooding episode (when the rain started and never stopped), by stall-hopping for a stretch of four hours between Mexico, Greece, France, Italy, Japan, India, Germany and South Africa. Standard Bank sponsored the whole event and Castle Lite and South African Breweries sponsored the beer garden.
"We are still finalising figures, but from what I've heard, we have doubled in figures compared to last year, so the event was a huge success," said the school's marketer, Michandra Ascensao.
All proceeds at the French stall went to the South Cape Children's Choir, who are fundraising for a trip to France. Sharnel Brits is serving Melissa Smales some French cuisine.
"Having the event during the day and on a Saturday was a huge success as this allowed the community to come together and enjoy entertainment and food. Having it at the quarry club instead of the school was a really great idea as a lot of families stayed and hanged out. They also loved the kids' zone as it was a safe space for the kids to play.
"We're thrilled to announce that the Standard Bank York High International Food Festival was a resounding success! We were blown away by the incredible variety of delicious dishes on offer from all of our international food stores. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support the event, as well as our generous sponsors who helped make it all possible. Here's to another fantastic festival next year!"
Standard Bank was the biggest sponsor of the event.
