GEORGE NEWS - A man (31) from Thembalethu was arrested late on Tuesday evening, 14 April, after cannabis to the value of R700 000 was found in his possession.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, capt Malcolm Pojie, members attached to K-9 Attaqua (the Oudtshoorn Dog Unit) who were deployed at a roadblock on the R62 in the Langkloof area, performed a search on the suspicious vehicle, a Kia truck, when the narcotics dog reacted positively to the possible scent of cannabis.
Upon further investigation nine bags of cannabis were found in the truck.
"Drug dealers are still exploring alternative ways to commit their illegal activities in an attempt to evade arrest. However, the vigilance of our members deployed at roadblocks yielded positive results when a suspect was found in possession of contraband near Uniondale late last night," Pojie said.
Subsequent to the find, the members confiscated the dagga as well as the vehicle used to transport it.
According to Pojie the suspect was en route from the Eastern Cape to George. He is expected to appear in court by Thursday 16 April.
