GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Opposition councillors in the George Council spoke their minds during a press conference this morning, saying the DA is more concerned about political power than the needs of the community.
This follows after Speaker Gerrit Pretorius postponed the council meeting that was due to take place yesterday morning, on very short notice.
ANC Chief Whip Nomawethu Jantjies-Gushman, ANC councillors Langa Langa and Charlie Williams, as well as PBI Councillor Virgill Gericke and Mercia Draghoender of the Good party, expressed their concern over an item on the agenda, the adjustment budget, that should have been tabled before Council by today.
They claim that several projects, including the development of the tartan track in Rosemoor and the upgrade of the roads for the phase 4B Go George roll-out, will be hampered.
The opposition say they expect the next meeting to take place by next, Thursday 5 March, but have not been given a date yet.

Although safety issues have been given as the reason why the meeting was postponed, the opposition says the DA is aware that they wouldn't have a majority in Council should they hold a meeting. "They are playing for time," said Jantjies-Gushman.
Speaker Gerrit Pretorius said the DA would not be so irresponsible as to jeopardise service delivery.
"We requested an extension for the submission of the adjustment budget, for which the mechanism exists. We are currently investigating the security and safety arrangements, whereafter a date for the next council meeting will be considered."
