A lively performance by local rappers Staff Member Productions (SMP) at the George Library on Wednesday set the tone for an inspired competition.
Jeanne Fourie-Hattingh, local psychologist and organiser of the competition, was thrilled by the vibrant performance given by SMP who aims to be a role model for the local youth. Hattingh thanked the George Libary for partnering the competition and expressed appreciation for the performances given by Dian Maritz, from Outeniqua High School, and the other programme participants.
"The 'I feel/Ek voel' initiative resulted from the desire to promote writing as a creative expression of human emotions. All South African high school pupils are invited to enter into one or both of two categories, namely, Poetry and Essay. Unfortunately, only English and Afrikaans entries are accepted and will be judged separately. We are blessed to have a passionate team of professional writers on board who will be acting as judges."
The closing date for entries is 31 October and entries can be sent to [email protected] or handed in at the George Library in Caledon Street, George, where entry forms can also be picked up.

At the launch of Wednesday's creative writing competition, local entertainers provided pearls of wisdom.
