GEORGE NEWS Eight Strandloper Project volunteers set off on their eighth annual coastal research expedition on Wednesday 7 October to gather data on marine pollution, fauna and coastal erosion.
The team recently collected its sponsored expedition vehicle from Halfway Toyota George before setting off.
During the expedition, the volunteers will document ocean plastic waste, fishing debris and indicator marine fauna species along the coastline.
Data collected during the expedition will also be compared with findings from the Strandloper Project's 2019 expedition. This year, researchers have added another element to their work and will document coastal erosion following the storms experienced in May and June.
The Strandloper Project conducts coastal research aimed at gathering information on the impact of human activity and pollution on the marine environment.
Updates on the expedition and the team's daily findings will be shared on the Strandloper Project's Facebook and Instagram pages.
