GEORGE NEWS - Nature lovers can look forward to a week of outdoor adventure as the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park joins in celebrating SA National Parks Week from 22 to 28 September.
Free day visitor entry will be available throughout the week.
Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of activities:
Casual canoeing: Paddle along the Touw River to Wilderness Beach or follow the Kingfisher trail to the waterfall. A special offer of six free canoes per day will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Forest fun: Take a short drive to the Woodville Big Tree, an 810-year-old Outeniqua yellowwood, and enjoy a self-guided walk.
Picnic time: Discover hidden spots along the Jubilee Creek or relax with family at natural pools and picnic sites such as Dalene Matthee Big Tree and Krisjan-se-Nek.
Bird watching: From indigenous forests to sandy beaches, Wilderness is a bird lover’s paradise. Visit the popular bird hides, including Malachite Bird Hide and Rondevlei Bird Hide.
Mountain bike fun: Try one of three mountain bike trails starting at the Farleigh Forestry Station.
Wilderness River Safaris: Take advantage of discounted rates during the week, including a 10:00 boat cruise for R100 per child for local schools and a 16:30 sunset cruise with snacks and refreshments at R220 per person.
With activities ranging from bird watching to river safaris, SANParks invites residents and visitors to make the most of this opportunity to explore the Wilderness Section.
