GEORGE NEWS – A woman and a man, Jay-Dene Bruinders (24) and Wayne Willemse (36), appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 29 April, in connection with the murder of Joshwin Arendse (16). The case was postponed to Wednesday 7 May for a formal bail application.
Joshwin’s body was discovered in the early hours of Sunday morning, 27 April, in Voëlnesvaring Drive in New Dawn Park, Pacaltsdorp.
According to police, officers responded to a call at around 02:20 and found the teenager with fatal injuries.
Pacaltsdorp Police arrested the two suspects shortly after the incident. A murder investigation is underway, and the motive for the attack has not yet been officially confirmed.
However, the boy’s uncle, Boy Eltris Baadjies, told George Herald that the fatal stabbing reportedly followed an argument between the deceased and the suspects.
Describing Joshwin as “the street’s child”, Baadjies said his nephew was a kind and helpful boy who never got into trouble.
“We are devastated, and we miss him terribly. His parents are broken. He always tried to help wherever he could.”
Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that all possibilities are being investigated, and further information is expected to emerge as the case progresses.
A candlelight memorial service will be held for Joshwin on Sunday 4 May at his house in Voëlnesvaring Drive.
The family invites all his friends and loved ones to come and light a candle in his honour.
