GEORGE NEWS - The case against Micaela Smith (24), the woman accused of Sharoline Daters' (26) murder in March, briefly appeared in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court on Friday morning, 14 November.
According to the Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, the Conville Police opened a murder docket following the incident.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Smith is Daters' cousin's ex-girlfriend, and that she has two children with him.
Daters was reportedly in the company of her cousin in Protea Park in the early hours of Sunday 9 March when a dispute allegedly broke out between him and Smith regarding their children.
Daters sustained a stab wound to the chest and died in hospital later.
Smith was arrested shortly after the incident and released on bail after her first court appearance.
Sharoline's father, Jacob (65), told George Herald shortly after her death that he was struggling to come to terms with the loss of his only daughter.
He described Sharoline as a gentle soul with a beautiful smile who cared for him deeply, someone always ready to help. "She was a loving person and looked after me so well. I cannot understand why anyone would want to take her life. Now I stand here alone, cooking for myself."
The matter has been postponed to 27 January for plea and trial.
