CRIME NEWS - Premier Alan Winde, Minister of Correctional Services Pieter Groenewald and Mayor of Cape Town Geordin Hill-Lewis met on Wednesday 19 November to formulate plans to combat gangsterism and organised crime in Western Cape prisons and communities.
The conversation centred on working together on numerous initiatives to reduce the ability of gangs to operate with impunity within the province’s prisons.
While they say they cannot disclose details of the discussion for security reasons, there was broad agreement to work across the spheres of government to implement solutions that they say will have a tangible impact on reducing and preventing gangsterism and organised crime in the Western Cape.
The three men will meet again in the coming months in order to drive these initiatives forward and to ensure that everyone in their respective spheres of influence work together to counter the scourge of gangsterism.
