GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - The quaint little dairy shop Kleintjie & Angelier opened its doors in George recently. The shop got its charming name from the first two cows that the owner, Charles McCleery, started with on his cousin's farm in Vanwyksdorp eight years ago.
After years of supplying markets and loyal customers, McCleery and his business partner Melanie Faure made the move to George last year.
In January they opened a small retail outlet at 49 Albert Street, where they process on site, making feta, haloumi, yoghurts, cottage cheese, queso fresco*, frozen yoghurts in various flavours, as well as kombucha, ginger beer, hand-rolled frozen pizzas, homemade pies and lasagnes. They are also experimenting with various other homemade takeaway meals.
"We are always trying new things, so customers can look forward to a constantly changing range along with our standard favourites," said Melanie. "For example, just out of the oven is our new Scottish shortbread, made by an Irishman, from an Indian recipe."

Besides their own produce they also stock Klapperbos Farm's 100% pomegranate juice that is flash-frozen straight from the orchard, as well as their popular chili sauce and chili salt.
They also stock free range eggs, chicken and other products from Red Barn Free Range Chicken Farm just outside George.
Charles McCleery and Melanie Faure make a variety of cheeses, frozen yoghurts, kombucha, ginger beer, hand-rolled frozen pizzas, homemade pies and lasagnes on site.
"We are committed to stocking ethically produced goods as our own products contain no preservatives or additives. We are not a health shop, but we do believe in promoting healthy produce," said Melanie.
Their natural yoghurt, which is also available on tap, contains only two ingredients: whole milk and probiotic culture. "We sell the glass jars for the on-tap yoghurt and you simply bring back the jar you bought from us to refill," explained Melanie.
"This way you don't pay for packaging and labelling, and you do your bit for the planet."

This one-stop dairy shop also stocks slow-baked homemade granola to enjoy with their variety of yoghurts and make granola bars for that on-the-go snack, the creamiest cottage cheese, sweet chili dip and Greek yoghurt.
The shop trades from Wednesdays to Fridays from 08:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays they are open from 09:00 to 12:00.

On Mondays and Tuesdays they are closed for processing and preparing all the delicious fresh dairy produce.
