GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Congratulations to Michael du Plessis, managing director and owner of Grow Green Organics, the 2023 Business Leader of the Year!
Following a month of nominations and intense judging, Du Plessis was announced as the winner of this coveted title at a glamorous gala awards function of the George Business Chamber (GBC) tonight, Friday 24 November, at the Bramble Hill International School banquet hall.
The GBC Business Leader of the Year award is bestowed upon a businessperson who has had a profound impact on the economy of George in the past year, showing great leadership abilities, exceptional growth and a positive contribution to the greater community of George.
Du Plessis started Grow Green Organics in 2007 with one bakkie, providing bakkie loads of organic mulch compost in the Garden Route and doing most of the hand labour himself, with the help of one general worker.
The company grew by leaps and bounds and Du Plessis expanded into manufacturing and distributing a wide range of gardening products to franchise suppliers and nurseries in the Western and Eastern Cape. Today, he owns various companies in transport, logistics and mining, and is expanding into property development. He employs more than 100 people.
Du Plessis attributed his success to quality service, hard work, being aware of movements in the market and being prepared for any opportunity. He also won the George Chamber’s Business Person of the Year in 2016.
