GEORGE NEWS & VIDEOS - Thembalethu was the place to be for township glam, traditional fare and trade training tours at the monthly network evening of the George Business Chamber (GBC), hosted by Africa Skills Private College.
Guests were greeted by friendly apprentices lining the township streets, pointing the way to the Africa Skills Ntaka Campus.
Experienced facilitators took guests on campus tours of all the workshops, giving them a glimpse into the world of developing skills in welding, electrical, plumbing, bricklaying, carpentry, and online training.
Showing off a different type of skill, the young local dance group Siyakhona Youth Group led by Xoliswa entertained the guests with their gumboot dancing and beautiful singing. See videos of the children in action:
Chamber chairperson Brenda Vorster welcomed all the chamber members and thanked Africa Skills Private College for hosting a very successful network evening.
She also announced that the AGM will be held on 20 April. GBC manager Bernadette Schaap then handed over certificates to new chamber members.

CEO of Africa Skills Elsie Harmse thanked the Africa Skills team who have helped realise her vision of changing the lives of as many people as possible by providing them with the opportunity to become qualified artisans.
She called on businesses in George to collectively invest in skills development, either by training and upskilling their own staff or affording a new learner the opportunity to obtain a qualification.
"By becoming an artisan and obtaining a red seal qualification, we are forever changing the life of a person," she said. "If each company can contribute to the training of just ten people, can you imagine how we can change our city?"
She also thanked the many businesses in George that partner with Africa Skills as host employers, helping apprentices gain critical experience in the workplace. "Together we are raising the next generation of artisans who will have a better chance of employment or start their own businesses," she said.
"To our learners, our partners, and businesses in George we would like to say 'Ntinga Ntaka!'; Realise your full potential!"
