GEORGE BUSINESS NEWS - With a number of faculties and a host of support services all accommodated under the proverbial one roof, the upcoming Nelson Mandela University Open Day at the George Campus Student Recreation Centre offers an opportunity to learners, prospective students, parents and educators to get greater clarity about study options and career choices at this comprehensive university with its seven campuses - six in Port Elizabeth and one in George.
On Friday 3 May, from 09:00 to 16:00, and Saturday 4 May, from 09:00 to 13:00, visitors will have an opportunity to engage with lecturers and staff representing a number of faculties.
The Faculty of Business and Economic Sciences will have a strong presence, featuring a variety of business-related programmes including Tourism Management, Marketing, Business Management and the variety of B Com degree options.
The Higher Certificate: Business Studies, which was introduced at the George Campus three years ago, is in high demand and should also appeal to prospective students. Physics and Sport; Education; Health Sciences; Engineering the Built Environment and Information Technology - with a focus on offerings in fields such as IT - and, notably, Marine Engineering, are also amongst the participants at George Campus this year.
The Science Faculty with its programmes unique to George Campus within the School of Natural Resource Management, such as Forestry, Wood Technology, Veldfire Management and Nature Conservation, as well as Agricultural Management and Game Ranch Management, is all set to provide learners and visitors with a better understanding of the study content, admission requirements and career options in these fields of study.
Visitors will also get a better understanding of the excellent support services and infrastructure that students enjoy across all NMU's campuses - including services for students with disabilities (Universal Accessibility and Disability Unit), student counselling and development services, accommodation, sport, student societies, library and information services, ICT services and much more.
The Financial Aid Office will also be present to provide information on the important issue of funding.
Orientation and information sessions
Before entering the expo areas, visiting learners will be able to attend a short orientation session which will assist them in deriving the most value from their engagement at the various stalls. These sessions will be presented throughout the day on Friday, as the need arises.
Parent and learner sessions have been scheduled for Saturday 4 May at 09:30 and 10:30 at the Lecture Theatre on campus. These sessions, which are open to all stakeholders, are intended to provide more clarity on the new admission criteria for prospective students applicable from 1 January 2020.

Opportunity to apply online
Prospective students who have decided to make Nelson Mandela University their study partner of choice in 2020, will also have the option to be assisted by the admissions office to submit their applications online during Open Day. Learners, parents and educators are encouraged to make use of this exciting opportunity to learn more about the Nelson Mandela University and how it equips and empowers students - future graduates - to help build a better society - "Change the World!"
