GEORGE NEWS - The stage production of Little Women returns to the George Arts Theatre this weekend, 5 and 6 September.
It is a show by the George Society of Arts, and is directed by Chrisma Theron.
During her studio interview at Group Editors, Theron describes the play as the coming-of-age journey of the March sisters.
The drama is adapted for stage by Marisha Chamberlain, and based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1868 novel. It follows four sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March, as they navigate childhood and womanhood in 19th-century New England while their father is away at war.
"It is much loved - it's been made into musicals, movies - even a TV series," says Theron.
"These four girls are so different, yet they all face the pressures of what it means to be a woman. Even though the story was written in the 1800s, it is still incredibly relevant today."
Theron admits she didn't expect to fall in love with the play at first, but the process of bringing it to life changed her mind. "Once I started working with the script and the actors, I fell in love. The themes are timeless and speak just as strongly to us today."
The showtimes are 19:00 on both days, with a matinee at 14:00 on Saturday 6 September.
