GEORGE NEWS - An exhibition that began as a gentle nudge from a mentor has blossomed into a cross-generational showcase now on display at the Ground Control Coffee Shop in York Street.
Down the Line: Generations of Artists has drawn such enthusiastic response that its run has been extended until 15 December.
It was a hint from their mutual art teacher, Ian Tainton, that set the process in motion: first guiding Magda Faul, who inspired Susan Alexander to join, after which both their children - Reuben Alexander and Anita Faul - followed suit.
With the support of Stefan Jamneck, owner of Ground Control, the idea took shape as a celebration of artistic heritage shared by both families.
Own voice
Each artist brings their own distinct voice to the exhibition: Susan presents delicate oil paintings, particularly evocative landscapes, alongside her fused-glass pieces. Reuben explores the world through an infrared lens, transforming familiar scenes into photographic compositions.
Magda captures humanity and the animal world with sensitivity, working in charcoal, pencil, pastel and oil. Anita offers luminous oil landscapes as well as ink-on-paper works featuring caricature-like portraits of real people.
