GEORGE SAILING NEWS - The wind played cat and mouse with the participants during Sunday's racing on Island Lake and only two races were completed.
In race one the fleet got widely spread out and the Dart of Hans Delport was able to finish well ahead of the Fireball of David Laing and Matthew de Villiers. The leading Laser of Henry Paine was a further five minutes behind, ahead of visiting French sailor, Yves Horent, and Maurits Lammers.
Kyle Koeries was the leading Optimist, leaving Jean Paul Buys and Luc Joubert well behind.
In the slow conditions of the second race, the Fireball could not get ahead of the fleet with the Laser of Henry Paine close behind. Struggling even more was Hans Delport on his Dart. After Laing and Paine finished, the rest of the fleet became becalmed and had to slowly drift to the finish line, eight minutes behind. Koeries was once again leading in his Optimist, from Buys and Joubert.
The senior fleet was sailing for the Woodwise trophy and the junior fleet for the De Klerk trophy. For the four races sailed in November - and now in February - Maurits Lammers is the overall winner of the Woodwise trophy ahead of Hans Delport. Kyle Koeries wins the De Klerk trophy for the 2018/2019 sailing season.
