GEORGE SWIMMING NEWS - Royal Swimming Academy athlete, Tammy Greenwood, a member of the Swimming South Africa National Junior Open Water Squad, was invited to participate in the Grand Bled Swimming Challenge, the biggest open water event in Slovenia.
The competition is a part of the Austrian Open Water Cup and is supported by the Slovenian Swimming Association.
The 5km event took place last Saturday, 21 July, and attracted 151 participants from 16 countries. Tammy gave a remarkable performance achieving two podium positions: first out of 13 swimmers in her age group (14-15 years) and third female overall out of 65 women finishing. Tammy was also the 19th swimmer overall.
Tammy trains under Royals head coach Mimette Salter, who was also invited by Swimming South Africa to accompany the National Junior Squad as coach.
With a number of Salter's own Royals senior squad swimmers featuring nationally, this was a remarkable achievement and well-deserved recognition for the local coach.
