The prizegiving was preceded by a short presentation on sailing activities in the region given by Evelyn Osborne. The highlights of these activities included coaching accreditation, development projects at Knysna, George Lakes and Mossel Bay and the major regattas held in the area.
As part of the general improvement in skills, many of the sailors had passed coaching courses, power boat competency and safety boat courses. Certificates for these were presented. Children from the Seven Passes initiative had previously attended sailing lessons and were presented with their sailing certificates. They will receive further coaching next season.
The club's premier trophy, the Angus Hay for Dedication to Sailing, was presented by Commodore Anthony Parker to Evelyn Osborne in recognition of her coaching achievements.
The Paul Trevelyan Cup, awarded for most improved junior, was presented to Georgou Divaris. The Dee Trophy, for best junior trier, was awarded to Chris Brooks.
The Clive Davy match racing trophy was won by Jayan Smart and Georgou Divaris.
In the youth fleet, James Hellstrom was awarded the Tom's Tavern, York and Farrell Trophies. Georgou Divaris was awarded the Toppies and JJ Optimist trophies.
In the senior fleet, Alastair Fraser was awarded the Kim, Chris Thomas, Laser and Parthenon trophies, Malcolm Osborne received the Millenium, Ma Wyatt, Harding, ARP Sedgefield and President’s trophies.
David Laing and various Fireball crews (Mandy, Rory, Ferdinand) received the Woodwise, Realty/ Homenet trpohies and the Fireball tray. John Marc Olivier won the Bell/Langvlei Cup and Diane & Anthony Parker won the Israelson Trophy.
The Commodore’s and Verhagen Trophies were awarded to Deryck & Barbara Eckersley. Evelyn Osborne won the Dereck Clark GP14 trophy and the Sotheby's trophy with Diane Parker and Chandré Gould as crews.
In his report Commodore Anthony Parker commended the outgoing committee for the good activity at the club. Attendance at club racing was at a high level and club members had done well at local and at away events. GLYC is in a sound financial position.
Regarding the election of a new committee, Parker was re-elected as Commodore. Malcolm Osborne was re-elected Rear Commodore and Frank Witteveen was elected as Vice Commodore.
