GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Fatherlessness is an ongoing pandemic across the country and it's safe to say a major contributor to crime in our communities. Children from fatherless homes are more likely to be poor, become involved in drug and alcohol abuse, drop out of school, and suffer from health and emotional problems.
Boys are more likely to become involved in crime, and girls are more likely to become pregnant as teens.
In an aim to overcome fatherlessness in George, the Zeal Men's Movement is once again hosting their annual Zeal2500 fundraiser. This event will take place on Saturday 4 March.
The event consists of two legs. One would be the runners and walkers taking part to accumulate 2 500km and the other, individuals or businesses who sponsor the kilometers covered. Any sponsorships are welcome.
With 15 men from Zeal participating as runners, the public are invited to join the event with the aim to collectively run/walk 2 500km on the day. People across the world have participated in previous events and some are expected to take part again.
At the end of the day, all the kilometres run/walked are added up to calculate the total. Participants have from sunrise to sunset.
To donate, contact MW Odendaal on 082 896 5243. To enter as a runner/walker, contact Steven Cronjé on 083 415 1162.

About Zeal
Zeal is a non-profit Christian movement founded in 2018 by a group of local men with the goal of reaching out to men and boys in Blanco to challenge fatherlessness in the area.
Their strategy is to create an environment in which the masculine heart can come alive. They aim to achieve this through a wide range of activities and outreaches.
The concept behind the fundraiser is to raise money in aid of the Zeal Men's Movement Touch Rugby League they have created to enrich the lives of men and boys of George.
"Our annual fundraiser aims to create more awareness about our touch rugby league for boys and men, as well as raising money to continue with the work Zeal does with them," said Zeal's Christiaan Blignaut.
"We are battling fatherlessness in our communities and hope to change the statistic. If you are interested to support the event as a runner, walker or sponsor, just reach out to us with your number and you will be added along with everyone else to our WhatsApp group created just for this event."
