GEORGE NEWS - A former vice captain of Outeniqua Primary Schools u.13A rugby team, Anton Potgieter, has been selected for the u.16 Noordvaal touring team to Ireland.
Anton, who also played for the SWD u.13 Cravenweek team, is currrently on a rugby bursary at Doctor EG Jansen High School in Boksburg.
Anton was selected as flank for the Falcons after three trials and represented them at the Noordvaal rugby week in Vereeniging. The Falcons won the tournament after beating the Lions 26-8 in the final.
Anton scored the first try of the finals and was named joint man of the match with team mate Darren Timmins.
It was the first tournament win for the Falcons.
Anton's dad, Pottie, said they would like to thank everyone who has supported Anton since his career started at age nine.
The Noord vaal rugby tour to Ireland is costly and most of the money comes from each player's own pocket. The Potgieter family make a plea to businesses and the public to please help Anton in achieving this once in a lifetime opportunity by making donations.
