The Eagles side along with the Eastern Province Kings, who are currently in first position on the log, will be the two contenders of the Absa Currie Cup First Division that will be competing for promotion to next season’s Premier Division competition in October.
The hosts in Friday’s match confirmed their status as the second leading team on the log after they achieved maximum points from their clash against the bottom of the log Falcons. The Eagles are now on 35 only two points behind the EP Kings. They will go head to head in their final league match of the series to determine which team will end the season in first place.
Baldwin McBean ran in a hat-trick of tries, Wensley Scott scored a brace while Shawn Raubenheimer, Bobby Joubert, Joe Breytenbach and Jaco Terblanche were the other Eagles players to score tries. Ambrose Barends kicked four conversions whereas Jandre Blom added a further two.
Barends (103) is currently the leading points scorer in the Absa Currie Cup First Division.
He is closely followed by Boland Cavaliers’ Jacquin Jansen who is in second place with 94 points.
The Falcons achieved a consolation bonus point for scoring five tries which were added by Chrysander Botha (2), Coert Cronjé, Anthony Klonaridis and Kyle Hendricks. Martin Thomson kicked four conversions whereas the visitors’ fifth conversion was added by Japie Naudé.
