GEORGE NEWS - The SWD Eagles put in a mammoth effort this weekend against the Sanlam Boland Cavaliers in the Carling Cup First division semi-finals in Wellington.
Despite the Eagles leading in the final minutes, the Cavaliers managed to score and convert a try that handed them a 25-24 victory. The half-time score was 18-17 in favour of the Cavaliers.
The Eagles went into this game as underdogs, placed 4th on the log and facing the log leader at home that had not lost a single match in the competition.
Considering they lost their first match against the Cavaliers 43-7, the Eagles fought hard to prove they were serious contenders.
“We took it to the wire but it was not to be today. Congrats to Boland for having the upper hand today,” wrote the Eagles on their Facebook.
The Boland Cavaliers will face the Eastern Province Elephants, who beat the Valke 31-27 in Uitenhage, on 27 July at the Boland Stadium.
