GEORGE RUGBY NEWS - Multisure Evergreens centre Jordan Beukes has been in top form in the midfield this season as his club seeks to regain its powerhouse status of decades past.
His form was rewarded with a maiden call-up to the South Western Districts Eagles for the SA Cup earlier this year but, while he hopes to climb the rugby ladder all the way to the top, his focus is on the club’s aspirations.
Helping it lift the trophy in the A-division of the SWD Super League will cap a resurgence for one of the oldest clubs in the country after it has fallen on hard times results-wise in recent seasons.
The Green Machine, as the team are known among their supporters, are in great shape to achieve this goal.
With their latest win coming against Heidelberg on Saturday, they have now won 12 of their 14 matches to lie top of the log.
It proved another hard-fought encounter illustrated by the 33-25 scoreline, but holding their nerve in key moments has been a hallmark of the class of 2025.
While Beukes is an imposing figure on the field, you will find a highly-disciplined young man if you look beyond his runs and big hits.
With a dad who is respected in coaching circles, he knows all too well that talent alone is not enough to rise to the pinnacle of the sport.
Beukes says the key is self-discipline.
He plots his future in the gym, where he spends six out of every seven days to ensure he is match-ready.
When the going gets tough, you need to be able to “negotiate with yourself”, he says.
“If you say you are going to the gym at 08:00, go at 08:00. Don’t wait until the afternoon or not go at all.”
Despite his tender years, he understands the value of being a role model for the rugby-mad children of Pacaltsdorp.
“I think I’m becoming a bit of an inspiration to the kids who are interested in the sport. At the end of the day there is always someone looking up to you.”
He wants to show youngsters that they should never let peer pressure stand in their way of becoming the best version of themselves.
“There’s lots in the world you can’t control, but you can control your health and how you look after your body.”
He fully appreciates what winning the title will mean for the Multisure Evergreens faithful.
“I just want to say thank you to all our supporters for always backing me and the team. We are just happy to put a smile on people’s faces.”
