GEORGE NEWS - Marlett Watson, a 35-year-old mother of three from George, has once again broken the South African record in weight throw at the Masters Athletics Championship held in Oudtshoorn.
Her distance of 11.18m is a 0.6m improvement on the last record of 10.52m. It is in fact the third time in a row that she has broken her own South African record.
Marlett gained 5 gold medals at the Oudtshoorn Masters and quali-fied for Springbok colours in weight throw, javelin and high jump.
This all round sportswoman is also a keen hockey player and has represented the Southern Cape ladies’ hockey team at the IPT tours for the last four years.
Next year in July she will be joining a masters team at the Golden Oldies Masters hockey tournament in Scotland.
Marlett is passionate about sport and children and she coaches athletics, hockey and tennis in her free time at Glenwood House, where her own children are learners.
Watson is a local lady and the daughter of Jannie Bester of Louvain in the Langkloof.
