BOXING NEWS - The fast-growing Sobhuza Boxing Club in Thembalethu is successfully developing young boxers in George.
Nine boxers took part in the Eden Open Boxing Tournament hosted in Barcelona Hall, Kwanonqaba in Mossel Bay last weekend.
Imange Thethani, Miyolo Tywabe, Endinako Mabala, Yamkela Wellem, Lukho Thethani, Mbasa Bhuti and Ibongwe Nelani brought home gold medals and huge smiles, while Anam Mpumlwana and Uyathandwa Bengu were smiling almost as broadly over their silver medals.
According to Eden Boxing president Nkosikho Makhalima, they will be staging many tournaments throughout the year.
On 1 March, Masibulele Boxing Club together with Mossel Bay Municipality will be hosting championships for the youth and elite (boys and girls from the age of 17 to 35) in Kwanonqaba, Mossel Bay.
This will be followed by an outdoor tournament at Asla Park in Mossel Bay on 9 March, hosted by Garden Route Boxing Club Academy.
On 19 April, Sobhuza Boxing Club in partnership with George Municipality will be hosting the Easter Boxing Tournament for the first time. This will take place at Rosemoor community hall in George.
He thanked all the participating municipalities for their support and said it is good to see boxing going forward.
