GEORGE NEWS - York High's first boys hockey team captain, Sean Slater (18), enjoyed an exceptional season this year.
"If it were not for the pandemic, he would have been the most capped hockey player York has ever had," said coach Jason Slater, the proud father of this talented hockey player.
Sean is currently a brand ambassador for the Princess hockey brand; he scored 21 hat-tricks in the 2022 season to date; he scored 100 goals in 36 matches in the 2022 season; he was named midfielder of the tournament in the Grey College Top Schools Tournament 2022; he was drafted into The Heat hockey franchise for the 2022 Cape Town Premier League 4.0 and named top goal scorer at the Fairmont Hockey Tournament in 2021 and 2022.
His success can be attributed to his self-discipline, hard work, determination and absolute love for the game of hockey, said Jason. "His ability to take in any bit of advice given to him by any hockey player, coach or supporter, puts Sean on a different level."
Three individuals who have had a huge influence on the young hockey player's sportsmanship are Luke Hartley, Rohniel Terblanche and John Spilhaus.
