The most popular sporting event on the Plettenberg Bay calendar, The Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge, will be held over the Festive Season with a large number of visitors in action.
The Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge has grown from very humble beginnings 6 years ago, when a small bunch of locals got together to do an ocean swim, to what has now become the signature event of the December holiday season.
This year the event has grown into a 2 day extravaganza of sporting options, all designed to offer every person, no matter how fit or competitive they may be, the opportunity to take part in a unique event knowing that 100% of their entry fee goes into the Sabrina Love Foundation, an organisation that has been very successfully assisting children with special needs in the Bitou Region since 2003.
Participants taking part in Day 1 on Sunday 27 December will have the choice of a 10 km run, or 15 km surfski, or the 6 km ocean swim or 5 km beach walk.
Registration this year will no longer take place on the morning of the challenge, the day before from 14:00 to 18:30, at the Beacon Isle Hotel.
Day 2 on Monday 28th will offer the choice of the following exciting new options: a 1 mile river swim in the Keurbooms River, a 25 km MTB or the Kids of Steel Duathlon for the 6 to 10 year old age group only.
Registration for these disciplines will take place on Sunday 27 from 14:00 to 18:30 at the Beacon Isle Hotel.
Over and above doubling the Love, well-known celebs Natalie du Toit, Chad Ho, Derek Watts, Bruce Fordyce, Martin Dreyer, including locals Michelle Eray and Kevin Evans will all be at the event supporting the Sabrina Love Foundation.
This years’ format will also feature the much acclaimed Plett Field Band and this promises to create an extra festive and vibey musical atmosphere.
Organisers Magnetic South have opened on line entries via their website www.magneticsouth.net. In addition, the Sabrina Trailer will be at Central Beach from 17 to 26 December from which you’ll be able to get your entries and purchase funky Sabrina Love merchandise. This year the event is sponsored by Stonehage and Discovery.
