SWIMMING NEWS - For the first time in over 12 years, the Fish Eagles Masters Short Course Championship took place in the last weekend of October. The event was hosted at Glenwood House and sponsored by John Dory's.
It was a great day with invitations extended to other clubs and regions. Swimmers from PE Masters and Royal Swimming Academy took part and loads of fun was had by 32 Masters swimmers. The relay final was won by RSA Speedsters and the over-75 average age was won by Fish Eagles Masters.
The open water swim was held in windy conditions in the Touw River at Wilderness, starting and finishing at the Fairy Knowe Hotel.
There were options of 1km, 2km and 3km to be swum. Seventeen swimmers took part in the 1km, where the winner was Luke Scott. J Pryse was the only swimmer who tackled the 2km, while 10 took part in the 3km. Fish Eagles Masters swimmers and helpers at Glenwood on Saturday.
This was won by Michael Semple, a relative newcomer from Sedgefield, and FEMS bionic Cliff Wallace came a handy second.
Times of registered SA Masters swimmers will be sent to South African Masters Swimming and a national short course championship result will be tabulated.
Fish Eagles Masters thanks Glenwood House, the sponsor John Dory's, officials, Francois Muller and Brian Salter, volunteers and participants. Thanks also go to all the organisers and the NSRI lifeguard team, who both swam and were on safety duty.
Fairy Knowe, as always, is a great venue for this activity and swimmers enjoyed a delicious brunch after the swim.
