HORSE RIDING NEWS - Two local equestrian sisters, Rosslyn and Pippa Squair, were among a group of youngsters from George who competed in the Western Shoppe South African Youth Championships in Gauteng last weekend.
The event took place from Monday 26 June until Sunday 2 July at the Kyalami Equestrian Park.
Rosslyn with her horse, Kilshane Tang, was not only part of the winning Western Cape Pony Rider Open Eventing team, but also the WC Open Pony Showjumping team that came second. Individually Rosslyn and Tang were placed ninth in the A2 class out of the 32 top ponies in SA, and seventh in the Open Pony Showjumping Championships class.
Pippa, on her horse Kilshane Tipperary, was in the winning WC Junior Open Eventing team. They also won the 1,1m A2 Showjumping competition with 84 competitors in their class and won a bronze medal in the WC Team 1,1m Showjumping. Pippa and Spanish Skyfall were in the WC junior EV95 eventing team, that also won their team event, and they competed in the 1,2m showjumping classes.
Skye Kingston, riding Ebb & Flow Rivendell Waimea Bay, obtained a first place in the A2 Speed competition, placed second in the Two-phase and fifth in the Accumulator.

Glenwood House learner Holly Crowther and her horse, Eagle's Waveski, were placed second in the 95cm Showjumping class.
Crowther was also part of the WC team that won this class overall. She also placed fifth in the 1,10m Showjumping class. On her horse Mick Dundee, she managed a fourth and sixth places in the 1,20m class out of 50 riders and was part of the WC team that was placed third out of the five provinces that competed.
Cara van Niekerk took part in her very first SA youth championships on Ebb & Flow Monsoon Night. This was also only her fifth show in total. She managed a 12th place in the 90cm Showjumping class and a fifth place as part of the WC team.

Shannon Conway on Ebb & Flow Nandi landed a second place in the 1m A2 Showjumping class, a third place in the 1m Accumulator, second place in the 1m Championship and was part of the WC team who were placed second in the 1m team championship class.
On her pony Ebb & Flow Spindrift, she managed a 10th place in the 90cm Accumulator, a ninth place in the 90cm Championship and was part of the WC team that was placed first in the 90cm team championship.
Amber Massyn on Ebb & Flow Zossie was placed second in the Open Pony 1,1m class, sixth in the Open Championship class and second for the WC team.
On Ebb & Flow Corland in the Junior 1,2m class, she placed third with her team from the WC and 12th overall out of 55 riders.
