Outeniqua High School pupils Jacques Fourie and Anneke Jordaan were selected for the the sub-junior team, Juan Fourie for the junior team with Christo Jordaan and Stephen Stander being included in the masters team.
Anneke Jordaan, in the 63kg S-J division, received a silver medal and shattered three EC records with a squat of 107,5kg, bench press of 47,5kg and deadlift of 110kg, totaling 265kg.
In the 66kg S-J division, Jacques Fourie emphasized his potential by winning gold, breaking three EC records with a squat of 155kg, bench press of 85kg and deadlift of 190kg, which was also a new South African record, totaling 430kg.
Despite a troubled back Juan Fourie secured gold in the 93kg J division and a silver medal in the senior class with a squat of 235kg, bench press of 157,5kg and deadlift of 267,5kg, being a new SA record, totaling 660kg and setting eight EC junior and senior records.
Fourty-seven year old Stephen Stander in the 93kg division, had a tremendous SA Championship with a silver medal in the Master 1 category and bronze in the senior men, totaling 605kg with a squat of 220kg, bench press of 140kg and deadlift of 245kg. As a result, three EC records tumbled in the Master 1 section.
For the fourth consecutive year Christo Jordaan received silver in the 105kg master 1 category, breaking five EC master 1 and senior records with a squat of 255kg, bench press of 145kg and deadlift of 255kg, totaling 655kg.
The SWD Powerlifting Club will host the Interprovincial Powerlifting Championships between Eastern Cape and Western Province on Saturday, 13 August at 10:00 in the Van Kervel School Hall. Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge.
