MOSSEL BAY SPORTS NEWS - With only a few days to go before the Mossel Bay Sports and Recreation Festival starts, it is time to make sure you don't miss out on the action or prize money.
In a statement the Mossel Bay Municipality notes that there are more than 40 sport codes represented, with activities from highly competitive to recreational.
From individual events to mass events like the MossMarch, there are activities aplenty to suit every age and fitness level. The full programme is available online at www.mosselbayadvertiser.com and on the Mossel Bay Municipality Facebook page.
The official opening of the festival will take place at the Bravo Lounge, Garden Route Casion, on Thursday, 15 September. The festival is from 16 September to 23 October. Weekly updates on major events will be available in the local media and on the municipality's Facebook page.
Get tough
One of the first major events of the festival is the South Africa's Toughest Firefighter Alive Open Challenge on 16 and 17 September at De Bakke Beach. For more information, contact Mark Smith (071 676 4272 or TFA@fireandrescue.co.za).
This year, the event also features a challenge for "mini" firefighters. This challenge is open to children three to 10 years old and features a kiddies' obstacle course. Registration takes place on 17 September from 11:30 and the challenge starts at 12:00. Play and win
Touch rugby enthusiasts can look forward to the Touchies Tournament presented by the Mossel Bay Municipality and the Garden Route Casino Community Trust on 7 October at the D'Almeida Stadium.
The tournament starts at 18:00. The prize money R22 500: R5 000 (1st place); R4 500 (2nd place); R4 000 (3rd place); R3 500 (4th place); R3 000 (5th place) and R2 500 (6th place). Entries close on 4 October at 12:00. Only players older than 16 years of age are allowed to participate. ID numbers must be provided on the entry forms.
