DISC GOLF NEWS - The Outeniqua Open Disc Golf Tournament at the Rooirivierrif sports grounds on Sunday and Monday, 26 and 27 April, saw competitors arriving from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Gqeberha and Knysna.
A total of 44 competitors entered, the highest number of entries to ever compete in this open.
The competitors played the first 18-hole layout on Sunday, followed by a completely different 18-hole layout on Monday morning for the final round. The disc golfers were put to the test to complete a variety of shot shapes, showcasing their skills for sidearm and backhand throws.
In addition to the tournament rounds, a nine-hole ‘Glow Round’ was completed on Saturday evening. The lights on the course baskets are switched off and the players compete with discs made with photoluminescent plastics, for an exciting and fun evening outing.
The mixed amateur division 1 (MA1) title was defended by the South African open champion, Alex Meuelenbeld, from Johannesburg. He secured the first place in this division for the third year, getting an ace shot on a blind approach into the basket over an expansive hazard area, the first ace on the course.
The female amateur 1 title was defended and won by Josephine Meulenbeld, also securing her unbeaten streak over the past three events.
The MA2 first place went to Jaco Mostert from Gqeberha and MA3 to Peter Robinson from George.

The junior divisions played exceptionally well and showed a huge improvement in their game since 2025. The mixed junior U16 (FJ16) was won by Anthony Ferreira from George, our very own South African open 2025 title-holder. He has shown dedication to the sport and has a good understanding of the game, joining the regular training events to improve his skills.
The female amateur U10 (FA10) was taken by Lana Jonker from George, a player with an exceptional natural ability for the sport.
The event was hosted with support from Disc Golf South Africa (DGSA).
Eden Disc Golf will be hosting the women’s global event at Rooirivierrif on Saturday 16 April.
It is a worldwide initiative driven by the Professional Disc Golf Association to celebrate the female divisions in disc golf. The event is open to anybody (including men) interested in experiencing the sport first-hand. The club will have a beginner’s nine-hole course active for new competitors, as well as discs available for new players to hire.
