The SwingFit Primary Schools Challenge is a tournament that takes place during every new school term, and junior golfers from various schools in the Southern Cape are invited to compete against other teams of four players each.
Learners who participated in this tournament were from Knysna, Glenwood, Outeniqua, Blanco and Sedgefield primary schools.
"The aim of the tournament is to develop junior golfers in the Southern Cape from a very young age," says Roelof Roeloffze, head teaching professional of SwingFit.
Roeloffze further says: "I think the turn-out wasn’t that great because of the exams. However, the tournament was much better than last year’s one."
Parents and teachers were also at tournament not necessarily as spectators, but as assistants who helped with guiding the aspiring golfers and assisting organisers with score-keeping and enforcing the rules of the game.
"The event was much better this year because of the support and assistance we received from parents and teachers," says Roeloffze.
SwingFit plans to host the next SwingFit Primary Schools Challenge in the next school term.
"We are also planning to host a primary schools league. It’s just to promote junior golf tournaments taking place in Knysna, as high school golfing tournaments are already big in our area," says Roeloffze.
Roeloffze is very proud of the four Knysna Primary School boys who were crowned as the overall winners of the tournament. They are Tristan Stubbs, Danial Cronje, Norman Seaton and Hugh Seaton, all of whom are being coached by Roeloffze once a week.
Glenwood Primary School’s first and second teams came second and third respectively.
The individual winners were as follow:
1. Norman Seaton - Knysna Primary School.
2. Danial Cronje - Knysna Primary School.
3. Jamess Murray - Glenwood Primary School.
4. Kyle Baker - Glenwood Primary School.
5. Christo Lambrecht - Outeniqua Primary School.
