GEORGE NEWS - Local motorcycle enthusiast and racer Dyllan Anderson recently stunned himself and fellow competitors by clinching overall first place at the Aldo Scribante Racetrack in Gqeberha, despite not planning to race this year at all.
Anderson, riding his powerful Honda CBR1000RR-R SP, said the weekend’s events were completely unplanned, with the initial intention simply being to have fun and enjoy some time on the track.
“I wasn’t planning to race this year. I was focused on other life goals,” Anderson says. “But I somehow ended up back on the racetrack, having an absolute blast.”
Anderson and his team left George on Friday evening, missing the practice session due to work commitments, and only arrived in Gqeberha at about 22:00. With no seat time and his last race being in November, expectations were low, but excitement was sky-high.
Nervous start, rocket-like ride
Saturday’s race day began with nerves, but Anderson was eager to feel out the superbike on the track for the first time.
Qualifying was all about settling in and getting comfortable with the high-performance machine.
“The bike felt like a fighter jet as soon as I opened the throttle,” he said. “It felt like a scene straight out of Top Gun - ‘Talk to me, Goose!” Despite taking it easy, he qualified in third position (P3).
Climbing the podium
In the first race, Anderson shot off the line like a rocket, taking the lead into turn one. Though eventually overtaken by seasoned racer David Enticott, he finished in second place (P2), shaving 1.1 seconds off his personal best.
Race two saw Anderson dominate from the start, keeping a steady pace and settling into a comfortable rhythm with the bike. “We got off the line so fast, my shadow had to Uber to catch up!” he joked. He finished in first.
Race three became an opportunity to experiment with different lines and gearing through corners.
Maintaining consistency, he once again claimed first place, securing the overall top spot for the day.
Anderson praised the performance and safety of the Honda, calling it a beautiful masterpiece and thanking the local sponsors who made the opportunity possible.
