GEORGE NEWS - George, Wilderness and Union-dale tourism departments made a significant impression at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in Lisbon from 14 to 17 October, showcasing George and the Garden Route's premier golf and leisure attractions.
Sharing space with major exhibitors like Fancourt at the South African Tourism stand, the George representative promoted the region's renowned golf courses and diverse leisure offerings.
George is home to acclaimed golf courses including Fancourt, Oubaai, George and Kingswood.
The IGTM was a platform to connect with international tour operators, fostering relationships and expand the region's appeal.
Sharon House, senior tourism officer for George Municipality, said the response to George and the Garden Route was overwhelmingly positive.
"Many in the trade were not previously aware of the breadth of offerings in the region,"
Tour operators were introduced to the region's varied leisure experiences beyond golf, including culture, gastronomy and adventure activities.
A growing trend shows operators combining golf with other leisure offerings, recognising South Africa as a diverse destination.
The event strengthened collaboration between George, Wilderness and Uniondale Tourism and key international exhibitors.
