SOCCER NEWS - The George Local Football Association (Geolfa) is set to host its annual Easter Soccer Festival, with the matches scheduled to begin on Friday morning and conclude on Easter Monday afternoon.
The tournament will take place across multiple venues in George's townships, including the Lawaaikamp, Thembalethu and Parkdene sports grounds.
A key fixture on the Geolfa calendar, the event aims to promote community spirit while celebrating local football heritage.
Altogether 33 teams will compete for the top honours. The winning team will receive R15 000, along with a trophy and gold medals.
The runner-up will earn R7 000 and silver medals, while the teams in third and fourth will each receive R3 000.
Teams from fifth to eighth will be awarded R1 500 each.
The teams have been divided into eight groups:
Group A: George Celtics, Bangalore, Young Pirates, Young Killers
Group B: France United, Black Cats, Abahlali, George Vulture
Group C: Paris United, George United, Celtics, Future Stars
Group D: Inkonjane, Simunye, Thembalethu Brothers, Heaven Stars
Group E: All Stars, Super City, Bangalore, Vista
Group F: Silver Stars, Rising Stars, Western Tigers, FC Pacaltsdorp
Group G: Southern Academy, Raul Stars, Vuvuzela, Young Masters
Group H: Royal Blues, Tigers FC, Madibaz, Spurs United, Fast Eleven FC.
The organisers expect a strong community turnout as the teams compete over the Easter Weekend.
