SOCCER NEWS - The Zone 9 team, All Stars FC, orchestrated a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Raul Stars FC in an exciting George Local Football Association promotional league fixture at Thembalethu Stadium on Saturday morning, 17 May.

Lithalethu Mcanjana and Bonginkosi Mlungu contributed the two goals for the Zone 9 side to win the game.

Zola Choli, the All Stars goalkeeper, displayed a stellar performance, denying Raul Stars positive opportunities.

With 41 points, All Stars are sitting at second position, aiming for the top spot in the Geolfa League. So far, they have played 20 games with 13 wins, two draws and five losses. Raul Stars are currently at third after having accumulated 40 points.

Pushing the ball forward

The Geolfa League game started on a high note as the teams pushed the ball forwards, looking for their first goal. Raul Stars were awarded with a set piece on the left side of the field, but Wandile Ntlanti’s shot at goal went wide. 

All Stars’ lanky forward, Mcanjana, open the score, making it 1-0, putting his team on the lead.

 Raul Stars were playing offensive football, hunting for their equalising goal, but it was not easy for them to break through All Stars’ backline. 

All Stars were awarded with a set piece, but it was cleared away by a Raul Stars defender.

The first half ended 1-0, All Stars leading.

Golden opportunity

Raul Stars started the second half with purpose, building their passes on the left side. Thulani Sontashe missed his golden opportunity when his powerful shot went wide.

The All Stars’ Mlungu extended their lead to 2-0, putting more pressure on Raul Stars.

They kept on pressing during the last moments of the game, trying to get their consolidation goal, but it was not their day to score, after missing many chances inside the box.

The promotional league fixture ended 2-0, All Stars collecting maximum points.
